Catch'n up

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I posted. My reason: I have been away from home three nights a week since March 27, facilitated two twelve-week Bible studies that ended just this week and I won't even go into the rest of it, however, I will say LIFE IS JUST TOO BUSY!

Tuesday night I hosted our ladies group at my home. Of course that means food, clean house and yard, etc. After that was over, I called my hubs who was visiting with several of his family members that were here from out of town for a couple days to see if they still visiting. He said yes and I told him I would be there soon.

He said "Bring food!" to which I quickly responded "How about you coming here so I won't have to lug all the food with me." So they did. Thus began party #2 for the night!

I did something last night that I don't ever recall doing: I stayed home from church . . . and . . was not sick! I desparately needed to be able to begin putting together my outline for Sunday morning on Jonah 2. It was a blissful evening!

As soon as I finish this post I am leaving again and won't be back until Saturday night. We are just about to finish preparing a house (purchased in March) for rental. I've encountered a lot of wifi but all are password protected so that's why I haven't been able to post. Then, when I have returned home I honestly haven't had the time.

My schedule is soon to get back to normal -- whatever that is! :) I will have a post up tomorrow for my scripture memory challenge.

Til next week, take care sweet bloggers!

Scripture Memory Challenge

It's already time for verse 8 of our scripture memory challenge! It actually feels good to put God's Word in my memory banks! Like most of you, I carry my verses with me at all times.

Here is verse 8 of Psalm 139:

"If I go up to heaven you are there; if I go down to the grave you are there." NLT

I have been studying the book of Jonah for the past several weeks. Jonah tried to run from the presence of the Lord. Each time I have read that portion of the book I was reminded of this verse and verse 7 that says:

"I can never escape from your Spirit; I can never get away from your presence."

Knowing that God is ever-present gives me such comfort and assurance. Some say God is a crutch, but I KNOW He is my Rock! I love Him so!

A quick update

Good morning my sweet bloggy friends! I only have a quick minute to post. I just drove in from out of town for choir practice that begins in 15 minutes! But I wanted to THANK YOU for praying for Oklahoma. There have been 200 homes lost in the fires and there has been tornadoes near Tulsa. I know that Tennessee, Georgia and some of the eastern states have had severe weather as well. They, too, need prayer.

I stayed home Thursday night ( hubs was an hour away) just in case some of the church people who were evacuated need a place to stay, etc. By the time I knew of their situation, they had already been asked to evacuate so I was unable to talk with any of them. The little town they live in is only 5 - 8 miles from us.

The air was filled with smoke Thursday night. There were so MANY fires throughout the state. One small town was unable to evacuate due to the fire surrounding the town. They rode it out with their fire department. I think they made it through ok.

I gathered up some things I wanted to take with me in case the wind shifted. Thank God all is well here, but there are so many people without a home today! Please continue to pray for them.

I must head out to choir practice. We are doing a dress rehearsal for our Easter production.
(Hopefully this makes some sense).

Learning to apply

In our Sunday School class, we have finished "Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage" and have begun "Fireproof". This is an awesome movie and it demonstrates many of the things that Mark taught in his series.

Satan has been attaching our homes since the time of Adam and Eve. Does that not tell us how powerful and influential a stable home can be? Marriage and home life was designed by our brilliant God, and we should do everything we possibly can to protect this precious gift. No matter what our past looks like, today is a new day. God's mercies are new each morning and He desires to help us along the way.

Our class has learned so much and I pray that each of us will put this knowledge into action when needed.

The next subject for our class will be "Jonah". I have been digging into this little book and plan to spent 4 weeks taking a look at the life of this prophet and looking for things to pull out that can relate to us today. If you have learned or have any insight into the life of Jonah, I would love to hear from you. I do know one thing, I want to learn from the pages of Jonah and not do the field trip! To be honest, I'm not into pruney skin and seaweed hats! Are you?

Learning to apply the knowledge God has given us will spare us unnecessary pain and hardships! I want to do life His way!

Oklahoma Fires - Please Pray!

Tonight there are at least 16 fires burning in Oklahoma as I type. The wind has been 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. The wind is expected to shift which means there will be new "fuel"The news said that they estimate 100 + homes have been burned.

Hubs is in Yukon tonight (1 hr. away) and I was to join him but I have stayed behind to be ready to grab what I think important. There are a few families in our church that are more than likely evacuated. I can't reach them by phone b/c I don't have their cell numbers -- only their homes number. I have tried to contact others that might be in the fire's path to see how they are, but unable to reach anybody. Shelters have been set up all over the state.

Here are a few pics from the news website.
Please pray for the protection of the in the fire's path, the firefighters and property . It will be a long night but I know that God is our protector and is in control of it all.

Love,
Sherry

Can you spell S-T-U-P-I-D??

Once in a while I do the most incredibly stupid things. I'm sure you are not guilty of this. ;)

Last night I decided it was time to go to bed, so I walked through the house making sure everything was "closed-up" and all the lights were off. I walked into the guest room to turn off a lamp and proceeded to exit the DARK room when suddenly the door jumped out and slapped me right in the middle of my forehead (well, almost in the middle). THIS TIME, :) I didn't see stars but I still ended up with an "egg" on my forehead.

I don't seem to have a problem with running into walls or other objects, but doors. . . . in the night . . . .? I don't know what my problem is but this was not the first time I've done it . Come to think of it, this has only happened in this house. Some of the doors do not stay wide open, they partially close. So maybe it's not all my fault.

Since I have shared my silly accident with you, I will have no shame and show you the results. Remember, I was ready for bed so -- no make-up. I sure hope it doesn't bruise! That could make it a little hard to cover up. Oh well!

Cake equals party!

Saturday was B's 5th birthday party! (Can't believe she's 5 already.) They decided to have the party in the church gym. That turned out to be a brilliant decision because the weather was beautiful but the wind was horrid. One of the balloon bouquets got loose and was in Kansas before the party even started! ;)

Here are a few pics.

It was a Minnie Mouse theme.

Everything is almost ready.

Her mom and dad bought her this bouncy thingy as a birthday gift.
This is awesome and the kids had some much fun!

Mickey was in charge of the gift bags for the guests.

Minnie took care of the "mouse" suckers.
Can you spell c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e?

Here's our excited birthday girl!

Big breath! Blow out the candles!
You totally rock!

It's time to cut the cake.
(I made the cake.)

The little guests had lots of fun!

Grammie and her angel-girl!

She had a wonderful time!

There were gifts galore!

She had so much fun with her friends. The next day, Sunday, was her actual birthday. After church, her mom and dad took her and her best friend, Riley, to McDonalds for lunch then to a children' museum. They had a blast! She had so much to tell me about her big day.

God bless our precious little angel and may she grow up to be a might woman of God!

One way to spend a Friday night . . .

Making and decorating this Minnie Mouse cake for my granddaughter's 5th birthday party was what I did for my Friday night entertainment. :)

I was pleased with the outcome -- especially since I didn't have a MM cake pan! Can you believe that the pan cost $70? I told my DIL not to buy it that I could use a pic from the internet and transfer it to the cake, and . . . it worked!

The bottom cake was chocolate fudge and Minnie was confetti. It weighted a "ton" but no wonder , you're looking at 4 cake mixes minus what I cut away to shape Minnie!

Last year I made a Cinderella cake for her party. Poor Cinderella looked as if she had been over sprayed at the tanning salon and desperately needed a nose job! It's a wonder I was asked to make Minnie this year :)
See for yourself.

Pitiful isn't she?
This cake was for B's 4th Birthday.

3rd birthday was Strawberry Shortcake
This was a homemade strawberry cake - yum!

2nd birthday - Care Bear (Rainbow Bear)
This was a chocolate fudge cake.

1st Birthday
B was in love with ducks back then and the color
"yellyo"

The duck was a lemon pound cake and the "bathtub" was orange cake.

This little cake was for her to "dig" into and she certainly did!
She had a princess crown as her party hat so I put a crown on the cake.
This cake was a white cake.

I didn't intend for this post to be the cake hall of fame but its fun to reminisce sometimes isn't it?
Have a restful evening.

Scripture Memory Challenge

I'm a couple days late in posting my scripture. Whew! Doesn't time pass quickly? The passed two weeks have whizzed by at supersonic speed!

I have changed translations. To be honest . . . I don't use words like "lofty" very often, so I decided to switch translations and have chosen the NLT (New Living Translation). I have been working diligently to relearn my verses in this translation. So much better for me! Here is mine for the next two weeks:

"I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!"

Psalm 139:7

I did that from memory ! :)

Hide and seek was a favorite game of mine when I was a little girl. I remember when I was about 4 years old I heard this scripture. I can remember thinking, "Oh, yes I can hide. I'll just get under the table, or under my bed, or under something and God can't see me!" I have since learned that there is no hiding from God. What I desire most today is to hide my life in Him -- not from Him! How about you?
