Saturday Cartoons

Isn't interesting how our senses stir up memories? I grew up on a peanut farm in Caddo County, Oklahoma. I remember beautiful, cool summer mornings with birds chirping outside my bedroom window. Fast forward ?? years, and I still love hearing the birds sing in the morning. Most any day I can step out on our patio and hear their arias and sometimes just simple morning chatter.

Last week I heard a woodpecker trying it's best to bore a hole in the metal gutters on the parsonage. Loony bird! His beak must have been "Z" shaped by the time he gave up. I could just imagine how his poor little head must have been buzzing! I wonder if he saw stars!

Anyway, the woodpecker brought back memories of another woodpecker from my childhood -- the famous "Woody Woodpecker"! Remember him?

He was such a feisty little character!

When Mr. Lantz was looking for the right voice for the Woody Woodpecker cartoon show, his wife auditioned without revealing who she was. When her husband heard her interpretation of what a woodpecker might sound like, he loved it and hired the voice -- not know it was his wife! Isn't that a hoot?!!

Saturday morning cartoons -- being a carefree kid -- lovin' life! Remember?

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Pop at "Pops"

After church today, Hubs took me to lunch at a very unusual place that is fairly new to our area. It's called "Pops".

There are several of them around the country. The one we went to today is located in Arcadia, OK. It's a gas station with glass walls lined with old style bottles of soda. There is a restaurant and gift shop inside. They have all the old soda flavors in the old bottles for sale. Not only are they bottled in the old bottles, they are made by the old recipes such as using Imperial sugar, cane sugar, etc.. The place was packed with people coming and going the whole time we were there. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table for 2. Most of the customers were young families.

There is a 66 foot soda bottle with a straw (like in the first pic) in front of the building -- their landmark. Pops is located on old Route 66. (Hence, the 66' bottle?)

Friday, Hubs stopped in and bought me a Pepsi.
As you can see, I've already devoured it :)

Here's what we bought today.
They give you these cartons for free.
(Free?? This carton on 6 sodas costs $12.95!)
They also have some very nice wooden crates (cases) for sale priced at $10 and $15.

We each chose three that we wanted to try.

Here's a close up of one made with cane sugar.

I looked for a brand called "Double Cola" but didn't find it. When I was a kid, it was a huge 16 oz. cola! I remember my Dad telling me that one time he told my brother (when he was a small boy) that he would buy him all the soda he could drink. Well, my brother chose the 16 oz. Double Cola first and that was a much as he could hold! My Dad got off cheep that day :)

It was a nice change of pace. It was a beautiful day for a Sunday drive! Thanks, honey!

I hope you had a wonderful Lord's day, too.

Eyes Like My Father

Father's Day is time to honor your father, if he is till with you. My precious Dad is now home with his Lord and my beloved mother, Jo. I was so-o-o blessed to have had them for parents. Dad had a way of sharing his fatherly wisdom and teaching as though they were such great ideas and it caused me to want to obey and take his suggestions.

I look more like my father than my mother, but I have brown eyes like my beautiful mother; Dad's were light blue. Years ago, when it first came out, I used to sing the song Gary Chapman wrote (when he was dating/engaged to Amy Grant), "Father's Eyes". The song may be old, the author and artist no longer married, but the words are still something I desire for myself . I so want God to shine through my life (eyes). I want to "look like" my heavenly father so that he might be glorified.

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband, precious son and all the other awesome Dad's.

Life at the parsonage . . . grateful.
